Shirle Ann Stone Willis Leggett, 71, of Seadrift, Texas, formerly of Bowling Green MO, died Jan. 30, 2009 at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Victoria, Texas after a brave battle with lung cancer. Survivors: Ralph Miller, who was the “love of her life” for the past 13 years; two daughters Teresa (Willis) Bunger, of Houston TX, DeAnne (Willis) Shvartsman of Chicago, IL and a son, Shawn Willis of Phillipsburg, KS, six grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. Shirle graduated from Bowling Green High School, MO in 1954. She attended the University Of Missouri for two years before her first marriage to Buford Willis Jr. She lived in Spain, and throughout the United States. She worked as a receptionist at NASA/Ames Research Center, |
meeting many astronauts, including John Glen. She settled in Texas, where she lived 33 years. During that time she was a homemaker and earned her degree in criminal justice at St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX. She retired as an adult probation officer in Williamson County, TX. After 20 years of dedicated service.
The things Shirle loved most were: her family, Ralph, fishing and shooting muzzle loaders. When Shirle caught a Big Fish it was hard to tell who was the proudest, her or Ralph. These two were like two peas in a pod. Where there was one the other was close by. A relationship that is rare to see these days. She won many awards and championships in muzzle loading shooting.
Shirle was an inspiration to any and all who met her. Her smile was a radiation of life to the fullest. Caring, giving and always positive. She will be greatly missed.
